Monaughty Wood
Monaughty Wood is located 2.5 miles south west of Elgin in Moray, covering about 1470 hectares. The forest features huge Douglas Fir trees planted in 1921 with dark green foliage contrasting with nearby birches, beech and oak. Lower trails showcase cherry blossoms in spring and rowan berries in autumn. The area is home to elusive pine-martens and is near Pluscarden Abbey, a medieval monastery. Deer management maintains low populations of roe and red deer.
